Internet Hollywood: What’s up Joetry?! Welcome back to the Internet Hollywood universe. I’m sure by now you probably know you are one of my favorite people to get in touch with when it comes to our monthly interviews. I’m definitely excited to hear about some of the things you got planned this year. How did you celebrate the coming of the new year and what goals and resolutions you put together to start it off?

_

Joetry: Thank you and the Internet Hollywood universe, I always love to sit down for your monthly interviews, it’s always such a pleasure and an honor and to be one of the favorites makes me blush. To bring in the year, I actually didn’t do anything too out of the ordinary- brought in the year with loved ones and went to work the first day of the year. My focus this year is the money grind, getting my businesses up and progressing, and overall happiness surrounding me.

Internet Hollywood: Being an independent model that has to use self-motivation to push yourself to build the connections you need to build your portfolio could be very challenging. What were some of the biggest challenges you had as an independent model last year and what do you plan on doing differently this year to see the progress you want?

_

Joetry: One of the major challenges I definitely face is trying to get to venues or meeting photographers. Transportation and scheduling always were clashes and I allowed that to prevent me from even attempting to network. Learning how to properly organize and move accordingly for events and shoots come in handy. This year I am going to broaden my horizons and not allow myself to be limited due to transportation or because of work. I’m simply going to work it out. So any photographers looking to collaborate this year I am booking especially since I have a few big New York trips in my future.

_

Internet Hollywood: You have been getting more involved with the independent scene of modeling by getting involved with more photo shoots and fashion shows. What kind of photo shoots have you grown more interested in doing now that you have been doing shoots a lot more and are there other things that we could expect from you in the future?

_

Joetry: The fashion show lifestyle is truly different from shoots. Very fast pace. I enjoy it and I love the energy of the crowd and the event as a whole. However the freedom and creativity of a shoot is something the inner artist in me loves. I can be myself. Confidently. I would just say expect more shoots in general. I want to be somewhat open-minded this year with building my portfolio without losing the modesty I’ve built for myself in this industry.

_

Internet Hollywood: With all the horror stories that have been coming out from independent models that allegedly had dark experiences with photographers, does it someway make you feel discouraged or influence you in some way emotionally when it comes to how you move as an independent model?

_

Joetry: I have experienced some…. awkward encounters when dealing with photographers especially when venturing out to people you aren’t really familiar with and you go alone. I’ve learned to always make sure to let my manager and parents know where I am at all times and I have my boyfriend or a friend accompany me so that I’m not place in a situation by myself and I’m not afraid to speak up and/or leave a shoot if I’m not comfortable.

_

Internet Hollywood: As you prepare to take on your goals this year, what are some of your do’s and don’ts to mentally keep you focused on accomplishing it all?

_

Joetry: That’s a hard one for me honestly but I would have to say moving forward this year. DO continue pushing forward no matter what, DON’T give up from a few failed attempts, DO try new things, DON’T lose your authentic self. Those I would say are my top two for Dos and Donts, but believe me, there’s a lot more.

_

Internet Hollywood: Thank you for the interview, Joetry!
