Actress & Model Raevell Smith discusses signing to her first agency, acting, movie roles she’d play, photo shoots, and more!

Beyond The Lens – Actress & Model Raevell Smith had a lot to share in our very first interview we did together for InternetHollywood.com about a week ago. She was one of many talented people I got in touch with in the state of Massachusetts this month to get the inside scoop on their background story, vision, goals, and upcoming plans. Raevell is also a person that has been on my list for a while so I thought it would’ve been a cool idea to interview her for the very first time. Enjoy reading the interview!

Internet Hollywood: Good afternoon Raevell! I’m pleased to have you chopping things up with us in the Internet Hollywood unvierse today. I’m sure a multi-talented person such as yourself have a big vision and a lot of drive to bring those visions to life. I normally have new people I interview give our readers a little background story on who they are, where they from, and what they do. So if you don’t mind filling us in, could you let us know?

_

Raevell Smith: Hey Justin, thanks for having me! I was born and raised in Boston, raised by a single mom and my 2 eldest sisters! I am a former Medical Assistant and was a supervisor at a local restaurant for the past 6 years! Just recently 2018 I stopped working both of those jobs to fully commit myself to finally work towards pursuing my dream to be a fashion model and Actress! Since I was a little girl I imagined myself on the website pages displaying the clothes people shop online for.

Internet Hollywood: Many beginners seem to easily find a way to get started on modeling but the acting part is a bit more challenging since it requires more than one party. What influenced you to take on both fields and is it as hard as it seems trying to create a lane for acting?

_

Raevell Smith: Acting wasn’t always something I wanted to do, but over the years after becoming more comfortable and loving to myself! I learned how animated my personality can be, I love to mimic people but in a positive way, I don’t like to ever make someone feel less than! And with everything I’ve been through in life, I believe I can put myself in almost any situation and reenact that part out as if it was happening in real life. How’d I get started? I took initiative and started a membership with Boston Casting in 2018 once I got signed with my first Agency “Dynasty Models and Talent” I noticed after a month or so a lot of the offers I’d get through email was not following through, so one day I called to get a better understanding of how Boston Casting works, I was then given all the information I needed and then I’m assuming because she seen how determined I was she then asked if I was interested in playing as an extra for the movie “Wonderland” they was filming in Boston. I was soooo siked, I immediately took the position and just a week later I was on set with Mark Walburg, Winston Duke and Bokeem Woodbine. It was such an amazing experience, I still can’t believe it happened! The movie was directed by Peter Berg and will be airing on Netflix June 2019! Since this experience I’ve been eager for my next acting opportunity, I’m also looking to take a few acting classes as well to better prepare myself for major roles!

Internet Hollywood: What kind of roles could you see yourself acting in when it comes to movies and what photo shoots suits your comfort zone when collaborating with photographers?

_

Raevell Smith: Ohh my- I have soooo many scenarios that done played through my head of roles I’d like to portray! I’d like to portray all types of roles, definitely action because I’m a Tom boy at heart, I’d love to climb something crazy, jump off some buildings lol, fighting scenes! Gangster scenes lol! Romance and just simple lifestyle related scenes! Just thinking about it gets me super excited, whenever I watch movies now I’m always looking at it in an actors point of view, wondering in my head “hmm I could play that role”. One of my fav actress’s is Teraji Penson, she is a really good actress, she is also someone who can play numerous different roles!

_

Internet Hollywood: I also seen your were in a Holiday Fashion Show last year. What are some of the projects that your working on this year and is fashion shows on your to do list as well?

_

Raevell Smith: I’ve been modeling for almost 3 years, when I first started modeling runway I was sooo stiff and shy you would have thought modeling was NOT my passion but that I was being forced into it, lol! But believe it or not modeling is something I wanted to do, I feel it’s my let out in expressing myself! So within time I committed myself to better my walk by practicing at home and at real shows! I started networking with people in my community, local designers and models as well and walking for these designers in community fashion shows! I could definitely say my walk has progressed tremendously because after my first year of modeling I was alreAdy walking in New York Fashion Week as well as Boston Fashion Week! That only proved to myself that I was making good progress as a runway model! This year one of my goals is aiming to walk in Paris Fashion Week!

Internet Hollywood: It’s not hard to tell the world of social media influenced the way people see modeling and has motivated beginners to start their journey off as an independent before seeking out representation from an agency and such. How would you say the world of social media has helped you and what are steps you suggest beginners take to get themselves started?

_

Raevell Smith: Not knowing or better yet not having any resources to start me off in my career was the hardest! Thank God my aunt who was a former model gave me as much tips as she could, she helped me submit my application to America’s Next Top Model! She gave me walking tips, and told me most of what to expect in this cut throat industry! She also introduced me to my first designer I walked for “the house of nahdra”. But as far as everything else, I literally had to find my own way! Social Media is a good networking resource and that’s what I mostly use it for. I connect with designers, models and photographers in and outside of Boston! I’ve learned about most of my casting Calls for Fashion shows are all through social Media and Event Brite! It was and is still kind of hard to ask someone “how did you get there” or “I love what your doing, how could I start” I learned not everyone likes to help, some people enjoy seeing you drown until you float to surface, I refuse to kiss ass so I’ve literally been figuring things out on my own and passing the word to people who was once in my shoes 3 years ago when I first started! And amazingly what I do is appreciated to some, it’s good to know people do look at me as an inspiration!

_

Internet Hollywood: With so much going on in the world that’s negative I know focusing could be tough for many but some uses the negative to empower themselves and use that energy to dive head first into their goals. How do you keep a strong mind when your facing strong challenges and do you have any fears of what challenges may be ahead as you go deeper in 2019?

_

Raevell Smith: I face personal challenges all the time, day and night! Separately, Having social media will make you question who really has you at their best interest and who doesn’t! But I’ve learned to not focus on the likes or what ever the next person is doing, but to solely focus on Me, because at the end of the day I’m not doing any of this for “social Media” I’m chasing my dream because it gives ME a piece of mind, I actually enjoy what I do and social media will never take that from me, I know I am going to make it regardlesssss! As much as I’ve already faced alone prior to 2019, God couldn’t throw anything else at me that I don’t think I would be able to figure out! Life is full of obstacles and lessons to be learned, if you really learn from them it shouldn’t be hard moving forward! It’s allll motivation for me!

Internet Hollywood: Thank you for the interview, Raevell!
