Beyond The Lens – Connecticut model Haley Sam has finally completed her interview Internet Hollywood and now is the time to share all the models answers with all of you. The interview between me and the model was long overdue and planned since the month of August. As soon as I found time I made it a priority to get in contact with the model to finish the interview off.
The public has been receiving continuous updates leading up to the release of this story since yesterday afternoon. In the interview Sam discussed the beginning stages of her career, her favorite style of modeling, working with Mark Johnson Photography, her talent outside of modeling and more. I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I enjoy doing it. Haley is such an amazing person and awesome model I look forward to writing about more in the future. Enjoy!

Internet Hollywood: Hey Haley. Now we both could agree this interview should have been done a long time now. So I’m glad to finally scratch the surface and touch down on a few things with you. Before we begin I would like for you to share a little bit about what you do so our readers could know.
Sam: Okay! So I am a freelance model based in CT always up for a challenge. I guess the best way to describe myself would be thinking outside the box. I’ve always enjoyed figuring out ways to put a twist on everyday ideas. For instance, shooting in sunflowers? Lets shoot sunflowers in the rain! Doing dance photos? Why not do them in an abandoned radio factory!
Internet Hollywood: Who was the leading source to your motivation when it came to pushing yourself more to conquer what you seek?
Sam: I honestly think that I pushed myself more than anyone. In the words of Mikhail Baryshnikov, “I do not try to dance better than anyone else. I only try to to dance better than myself.” I see myself as the one to beat and in doing that, I’m pursuing personal excellence in my craft rather than getting lost in comparison. And that goes for all areas of my life-not just modeling!
Internet Hollywood: How did those around you feel about your decision to start modeling? Did they support it?
Sam: There were a lot of mixed opinions that came my way once I made the decision to pursue modeling. Out of respect, I don’t want to mention anyone specifically- but there were many people I looked to for encouragement that were very unsupportive and even repulsive towards me about it. Photographers were my main source of confidence; Mark Johnson in particular, helped me gain my confidence and get my feet on the ground to accomplish more than I ever thought I would!
Internet Hollywood: What is your favorite style of modeling and is there any unexplored style that your interested in exploring?
Sam: Oooh this ones tough. Mmm I’d have to say that anything in the water is my favorite hands down. But I really love fine art style photography. Where the model is more of a working piece of the whole picture rather than being the center of attention. As far as something I’m interested in exploring, I’m talking to a photographer now about getting into some underwater photography stuff. Which I’m SUPER excited about. Other than that I can’t really think of anything right now, but I’m always open to trying new things!
Internet Hollywood: How do you defeat the thought of giving up at times you may feel like giving up?
Sam: This kind of has been a theme in my life for pretty much forever. I journal a lot actually and whenever I start something new, I make it a point to write down everything that I’m feeling or thinking. Recording my feelings of excitement and passion for whatever it is that I may be doing. And so whenever I feel like throwing in the towel, I go back to that journal entry and remember why I began doing this in the first place and it helps me to refocus and pan out my mind to the bigger picture of what’s going on- not just the here and now.
Sam: Mark and I have worked together for years now, and he’s definitely my go-to when I’m looking to try something out of the ordinary! We had been in contact discussing some things and he mentioned if I wanted to get a waterfall shoot in before it gets cold, to just let him know! (I will never say no to waterfall shoots) so of course I said yes! We’ll more than likely be posting more of that shoot in the future so stay tuned!
Internet Hollywood: Which shoot with him would you say is a favorite so far?
Sam: EVERY SINGLE ONE!! I’d have to say this past one in the waterfall is tied with the 30min sunflower shoot we did in the rain last month! He always soars above and beyond my expectations for shoots and because of that it’s hard to pick just one favorite!
Internet Hollywood: What would you say has been your toughest challenge as an independent model?
Sam: My toughest challenge as an independent model has been maintaining my integrity while being well versed in all genres of photography.
Internet Hollywood: Many people seeing you modeling may think that’s the only thing you do. What other forms of creativity are you very confident about sharing to the public, or have been sharing?
Sam: So anyone who knows me knows that I am an extremely artsy person. I play piano and am learning guitar, I sing, and actually do photography myself! It’s fun to be on the other side of the camera for a change! I used to dance professionally touring the country, but due to a nerve injury I’m unable to continue that anymore! I love to draw and do calligraphy, I’m actually currently designing a new tattoo for myself and also for a close friend which is super fun. Sooo yeah! That’s a little glimpse of what I do in my free time when I have it.
Internet Hollywood: When is the day Haley Sam will put modeling to the side to focus on other things?
Sam: I’m not sure the exact day, next fall I’ll be attending school to become a licensed massage therapist in the state of Connecticut. I’ll probably keep modeling up until I get married, but sadly will be doing less once I start school because of time!
Internet Hollywood: Thank you so much Haley!
