Kendall Johnson discusses modeling, being a social work PhD student, directing a pageant, upcoming projects, and more!

Beyond The Lens – Now that we’ve entered a brand new week and things are back in motion here at Internet Hollywood it was only a matter of time before new faces make their appearance on the front page of our website for the very first time. I have been in contact with many new faces this month and one of those faces happen to be Massachusetts model Kendall Johnson.

Kendall was one of the models that took me on for a written interview after being invited to do one over messenger about 2 weeks ago. I have been connected with Kendall over one of my social media platforms for quite sometime and I figured now we would be the best time to pretty much roll it out for everyone to read it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I love doing it!

Internet Hollywood: Good morning Kendall! I hope you’re having a wonderful day so far. I apologize for the wait for the questions. Thank you for joining us here at Internet Hollywood. I’m curious to see some of your answers to the questions I’m about to send you. Learning about new faces never gets old to me. So for those that don’t know, could you give us the inside scoop on your background story; where your from, where you reside, and what talent of yours you would like to make into a career?

Kendall: My name is Kendall Johnson, I was born and raised in Detroit, MI. I currently live in Boston, Massachusetts. I am a second year Social Work PhD student at Boston University. I attended the University of Michigan for my undergraduate and master’s work. I am the middle of three daughters. My hobbies include reading, dancing and modeling/pageants. I hope to be able to model more regularly after I complete my PhD. I also hope to use my pageant experience and turn that into future career oriented work such as doing some coaching or directing pageants. I currently work for Pageant Planet, which is a company who has the goal of connecting and expanding the pageant industry.

Internet Hollywood: What influenced you to want to become a model and how did you build up the courage to get yourself involved with pageants when the opportunity presented itself?

Kendall: I wanted to be a model to represent darker skinned women in the world of modeling and show that they are beautiful. I also wanted to get into pageantry because it gives me the opportunity to share my passion for empowering women and raise awareness about domestic violence, having lost a loved one last year. Pageantry also has helped me increase my confidence and be able to speak about myself and hopefully inspire younger women who look like me.

Internet Hollywood: It’s pretty awesome that your a phd student in social work at Boston University. I could only imagine how that experience is and how hard the work may be. Out of all the fields, what made you choose social working and is developing the abilities to become one as hard as it seems?

Kendall: I chose social work because I am passionate about helping others. I look at the world and see all the people who are struggling, and I want to make a difference. I come from a community that is plagued with violence and a lack of resources, and I want to give back to my community and advocate for them. We still have a lot of work to do, and I am committed to contributing to making that change.

Internet Hollywood: Your blog is pretty awesome by the way. It’s pretty cool and really educational seeing you go into your life as a black female model and scholar. What made you decide that you was going to make a blog and how would you describe what it’s about in it’s entirety
