Internet Hollywood: Hey Abella!!! I’m so pleased to have you back in the Internet Hollywood universe. The last time we heard from you was on Christmas when you purchased 30 presents for you family. You really gave me that Home Alone feel for the movie. LOL. Now that the ice is breaking and it’s slowly getting warmer I’m curious to find out everything that’s been going on with you. How has the year 2019 been treating you and what are some of the things that you’re currently working on?

_

Abella: Well, I would first like to say thank you for having me back. I am so happy that the weather is getting warmer and the sun is shinning longer. The winter is so depressing but I always try to make Christmas a good time for my friends and family. I can say a lot has been going on since then. So far 2019 has been treating me well. Although, I am not able to say it has been free of its own challenges. However, I have been able to accomplish some goals that I have been working years on. For instance, I was finally able to pay off my student loans that I have been working at for 13 years. It has taken a lot of sacrifice, budgeting, missing important events, and the like in order to save up enough money to do so. Plus, I found out that if this semester is successful grades wise, I will be officially transferred into the Masters of Dietetics Program. I was even given my official academic calendar. I am super excited for what the rest of the year will bring. There are some really good things in the works. Some things I am currently working on include personal training at my university, attending university, acting in some local Boston films through northeast productions, fashion shows, and modeling. I will be filming this weekend on a film called the Hero of Brooklyn. I play a damsel in distress who gets robbed. I have an engagement photoshoot this Sunday, April 14th. My next fashion show is in the Recycled Fashion Show on Saturday April 27th. My next show performance where I will be acting, modeling, dancing, and singing on stage will be May 4th in the Afternoon Tea Party Event.

Internet Hollywood: Last year, you had some pretty big career plans that also included acting, commercials, runway shows, and looking into agencies. How has that been going and did your main focus and goals changed now that your now in a new year?

_

Abella: That’s right. Those career goals are still in place but there have been some setbacks. Unfortunately, as you age, you are less likely to get picked up by an agency. You are also less likely to get work. I have been applying for runway shows, commercials, agencies, acting roles, but nothing huge has panned out as of yet. There is a lot of good competition out there and this is a highly competitive field. However, I am still working toward those goals and hoping for the best. I cannot let “no’s” stop me from pursuing my goals and dreams. I am also not willing to compromise who I am, my values, my beliefs, etc. If staying true to who I am means getting less work then that is something I am willing to accept. With that being said, my main goals have shifted in the new year. I have shifted my focus to being real to myself, taking time for self care, taking time for family and friends, working towards my masters degree in dietetics, personal training, my health, and my relationship. This year my mom and dad have some health issues and Last year, I lost my Uncle and my Aunt a couple months apart due to different types of cancer. It was really hard for me. I realized my family is shrinking and shrinking fast and that life is precious, so we really need to show those we care about that we love, value, and cherish, them as well as their time. My aunt and uncle died relatively quick after diagnosis so you just never know when it is your time to go. Thus, I have also been trying to plan accordingly for my future. I also had a pretty serious health scare myself last year so I do not want to take any chances. Don’t get me wrong, modeling and acting are still very big parts of my life. Modeling and acting is what I love and enjoy doing. Its just, I realize there are more important things in life than simply being rich and famous. As far as my goals are concerned, those are holding true. I still want to act, get casted for big roles in commercials, television shows, movies, and the like. I still want to get casted for big modeling events. I still want to do runway shows, photoshoots, editorials, and get published. Plus, I would still like to get signed with a larger agency. Some other goals include getting hired in the nutrition field for part time work so I can get field experience towards the dietetics career, reducing debt, saving for my wedding (I am engaged), saving for a house, and traveling more. For those who know me well, I always have a ton of goals in place. You know, you always have to reach for the moon so that you fall among the stars.

Internet Hollywood: What kind of photo shoots and movies fit your comfort zone to the point you want to participate and now that your more experienced has anything changed about the way you do things compared to how you first started?

_

Abella: The kinds of photoshoots that really get me hyped are ones that involve fantasy or the mystical realm. I have seen some really amazing work recently by a Russian photographer that I just would absolutely love to do. I also really enjoy the femme fatal genre, women empowerment, film noir, cosplay, fashion, punk. Actually, there is a lot I will do. The only things I do not like to shoot and will not do are nudes, even implied because usually that involves nudity. Also, I do not shoot anything that involves blood and gore. I am not into scary or gross. I am into beauty. Although, I can say that I am trying to branch out and do more creative and unique posing as well as shooting with some props. Recently, I worked with dry ice. That was pretty neat. I have a lot of ideas for shoots, bringing them to life is the challenging part. One thing I will say, is that I have been told I am transformative which seems to be a really good thing in this field. The kinds of movies that really get me excited are comedies and action movies. Although, I will admit I am a huge fantasy fan, which includes DC, Marvel, and science fiction. I would absolutely love to be a superhero , have super powers, magic, or anything along those lines. One of my favorite movies is actually The Covenant. Too bad they never made a second movie. Some of my favorite Television shows include cloak and dagger, the gifted, superwoman, and the big bang theory. Having any role that is similar to these actors and actresses would be totally a dream come true. I literally fantasize about it. HAHA. I don’t think things have changed much now that I am more experienced. The biggest thing to change is my confidence level and my nerves. I am much less worried and anxious now about getting in front of the camera and walking on the runway. I still practice and prepare as if it is the real thing. I still give 110% of my energy and effort. I still prepare and plan. I think I started with good habits so those habits have just been refined and honed in on rather than changed. When I first started I was so worried about what other people thought and concerned about how I did. Now, I just be myself, do what I came to do, and let everything else just sort of fall into place or happen. I realize modeling shows and acting takes a lot of time so I do not try to over schedule myself. I make sure I plan 1 thing a day and give myself adequate time for travel, preparation, hair, makeup, etc. If something goes wrong, we are running late, or what not. It is no longer a big deal. I don’t let it stress me out. My attitude is this is just how this industry is and I let it role off my back. I go with the flow much better now. Having that wiggle room is a huge help.

Internet Hollywood: From an overall view, what kind of services do you offer and is there any set rate on what you’ll charge people to do those services?

_

Abella: In terms of modeling, I have 2 services and rates, The natural makeup service and price and the pro makeup service and price. I charge $50 an hour with a 2 hour minimum for the natural makeup service and $75 dollars an hour with a 2 hour minimum for the pro makeup service. If I have to travel a long ways such as out of state, I would also expect some sort of travel accommodation whether that be room and board or meals. That happens more rarely though. I am willing to do Trade for Print if the work will add to both portfolios but this is on a case by case basis. In terms of acting, I go by the non-union rate and charge 88$ with no more than 6 hours of expected on set work. Just note, that I am SAG eligible. So rates are subject to change. Also, I do a lot of local Boston films and a lot of that is volunteer work. On a side note, I think It would be important to mention the expenses a model and actress incurs on their own that should be accounted for. We have to provide wardrobe, including shoes, which can sometimes cost $50 or more a clothing item. We have to do our own hair and makeup which three eyes shadows at Sephora costs $50 alone plus the time it takes which can be up to 2 hours if we do it ourselves. If we have to dye or cut our hair and have hair and makeup done professionally, that costs $50$ for makeup on the cheaper side and up to $120 for hair services that can take up to 4 hours. Then we have to do our nails. If we do nails ourselves, it can cost $25. If we have to have it done professionally it can cost up to $60. Not to mention, the gas for travel, car maintenance to make sure we can get to the shoots or sets. I understand photographers and videographers have their own equipment, set production costs, travel, car maintenance – if they travel, and time for editing but photographers have more opportunities of getting and finding work. Plus, they get the chance to sell their work, have art showcases, submit the work for publications, etc. Therefore, I just would like to remind everyone to be respectful of eachothers costs, time, and craft because it is sometimes forgotten or not realized.

Internet Hollywood: What kind of connections are you hoping to build this year to help you get closer to your destination and what are you hoping to gain from all of the hard work you’re doing to fulfill the goals this year?

_

Abella: The kinds of connections that I would like to build this year- I think- are the same connections a lot of us would like to build – long lasting professional and respectful relationships where the other party knows that they can depend on you and therefore call you back repeatedly for work. I would also like to build connections with influencers within the field, so more casting directors, producers, modeling coordinators, event coordinators and the like. I would like to build relationships with other models, stylists, fashion designers, clothing designers, hosts/hostesses, tv personalities, magazine producers, etc. I feel as though everyone in the field has a unique perspective and knowledge and you never know where the next opportunity may lie. I don’t think it is a wise move to cut anyone off or sell anyone short. Everyone has something to contribute. I think It would be stellar if I could someone connect with some top people in the modeling and acting industries. Perhaps get some pointers or feedback that could help progress my career. I am hoping to gain even more self-confidence, a good name reputation, and more exposure. I am also hoping to gain the feeling of satisfaction knowing that my hard work has paid off and I am finally in a place where I would like to be. You know that feel good place deep inside your soul where you just feel happy? I look foreword to that day. I am working towards getting more publications, more larger roles, roles in bigger establishments, more work and paid work, and more people calling to ask me to work with them rather than me always being the one to reach out. I am working toward modeling and acting outside of the USA, in say, London or Paris and getting a billboard in Times Square. In terms of acting, I am working toward having a speaking role, no matter how small, in a large film or television show out of Hollywood. All of these would be a dream come true and would make me feel accomplished and successful.

_

Internet Hollywood: Last year, you told me the biggest lesson you learned in the year 2017 was never to give up. During the year 2018 did you learn anything that made you change anything about yourself so you don’t make any of those same mistakes this year?

_

Abella: I think every year is a learning experience where we fine tune ourselves, our likes and dislikes. I have been working toward the same career goals for the last 5 years so, for me, perseverance, never giving up, goal setting, and being true to yourself are all major qualities for success. I don’t think I will ever be mistake free. No one is perfect and I am no exception. I am far from perfect. I will admit I have a lot of flaws. I am not the most organized, I am not the most punctual, I am not the prettiest, I am not the smartest, I am not the most confident, I am not always the most prepared, I sometimes am a little lazy, or procrastinate but I do have some really great qualities. I always try my best and give all that I have in whatever I put my mind to. I do my best to not make excuses, to be honest with myself, and to hold myself accountable. Plus, I do my best to use some of this negative energy and turn it into positive energy. If I happen to be lazy one day, I try to turn that into some self care. If I procrastinate, I try to turn that energy into motivation to push me into getting some work done. I have learned that I do work well under pressure but that I do have my limits and there is a certain threshold where I will either thrive or I will fail. My journey may have started later than most, and it may be a lot slower than most, but that doesn’t mean I am going to stop or that I am not going to continue to pursue these goals and dreams. I have found that having a positive attitude and a good bounce back are also extremely helpful in the pathway to success. These are two things that I struggle with and work on continually. Furthermore, having patience is difficult. I do what I can to work on this quality as well. I have learned that the trials and tribulations of life will always be there, it is our job to be respectful, hardworking, dedicated, good people and support others whenever we can within reason and within our ability to do so. No matter how many road blocks or obstacles, no matter how many challenges, no matter what life may throw at you, if you never waver or take your eye off the prize and, if you keep moving/pushing foreword, eventually you will get there.
