Model Hailey Nakaya begins her model journey, discusses her first photo shoot with Ray As, wanting to stay independent, working on a book and more!

Beyond The Lens – Upcoming independent model from the state of Vermont name Hailey Nakaya is exploring a new realm after deciding to take the steps she needs to expand herself as a newcomer online. A friend of mine filled me in on all the information I needed about the model before asking if I could help guide her in the right direction and that’s what I like to believe I have been doing. LOL.

The 20-year-old college student just started her social media pages and have been highly engaging in conversations with others to establish new friends and connections and it has been going wonderful for her. After two days, she has already been invited to participate in a fashion runway show and a few photo shoots. The offers are expected to increase as I continue to run campaigns for her.

In this interview we discuss what influenced her to start modeling, what kind of photo shoots she is into, whether she’s interested in signing to an agency, what she hopes to accomplish and more.

Internet Hollywood: Hey Hailey Nakaya! I’m pleased to welcome you to your very first interview with Internet Hollywood and I look forward to learning more about who you are while I follow your career. Before we begin, I would love for you to give us a brief history of yourself and what made you decide to start modeling.

Nakaya: First, I want to thank you SO much for giving me the opportunity to talk with you and allowing me to introduce myself to all of Internet Hollywood! It’s an honor. So a little bit about myself; I am a small-town girl from Southern Vermont. I’m 20 years old and I am the middle child of many siblings. I have a lot of interests, some of which include drawing, everything sports, reading/writing, hunting, a wide range of music, riding horses and ATV’s, and being around my friends and family. I just like to be laid back, feel good vibes, and keep to myself. My first job was a sales associate for a local sporting goods store where I worked for a little over a year. Towards the end of my time at the sporting goods store, I got a second job at a pharmacy. There I work as a pharmacy technician and I have been employed there for a little over 3 years. During my high school years, I experienced many losses. I lost two of my close friends, both on separate occasions. Then, my world was completely turned upside down the day I found out my boyfriend had passed away in a car accident. I picked myself up and continued getting my high school education. During my senior year, I got a significant letter in the mail. I was going to college! The first in my family to ever go! When I graduated high school, I left my home town to go to Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Albany, New York. After being there for just under two years, I had to make an incredibly tough decision; to stay in school, or leave school to move back home and take care of my rapidly declining health. At first, I tried to look at it as a “decision”, but I eventually came to face the harsh and upsetting reality that I actually didn’t have an option. So, I moved back home. Fast forward to today, and my health is much better! I enrolled back into school at a local community college. I’m currently studying to become a Medical Assistant. So far, I’m thoroughly enjoying it. Now I get to simultaneously embark on my lifelong dream of being a model. I couldn’t be more ecstatic!

Internet Hollywood: Was there anything or anyone keeping you back from fully investing your time into modeling before you decided to take it on seriously?

Nakaya: Growing up with such a large family made it tough to be able to do everything each of us wanted. I’ve been playing basketball since I was three years old, so basketball was my thing that I got to do. Now that I’m able to commit to plans, while having my own transportation, I can indulge myself into everything I’ve always wanted to do.

Internet Hollywood: What kind of photo shoots are you open to do with photographers?

Nakaya: I’m open to hear any and every suggestion a photographer has! Every photographer is different and has a different style they work best with. Plus, hearing all suggestions only gives me more opportunities to expand my range and experience as a model. The only thing I am not willing to do is nude, dressed down, obscene pictures. One of my main messages I want to portray to women of all ages, is that you don’t have to take your clothes off to be considered beautiful. Beauty comes from within and shows through your expressions that are captured on camera. It’s shown through your body language, not what your body looks like underneath all the clothing.

Internet Hollywood: Are you nervous about finally taking the steps to expand in the modeling field? How are you feeling now about it?

Nakaya: I’m not nervous at all! I am extremely excited about the adventures I’m about to endure. I’ve talked to so many people with loads of helpful tips, kind words, endless support, and just as much excitement to see my future work as I am! I’ve had a great experience so far and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for my future!

Internet Hollywood: Do you want to stay independent or sign to an agency?

Nakaya: At this moment in time, I want to stay independent. I have so many projects I’m working on, I would feel wrong about committing to an agency when I’m not able to give them 110% of my attention. Once my time isn’t occupied by schooling and my schedule clears up a little bit, I might reconsider.

Internet Hollywood: You recently did a photo shoot with Ray As and thousands of photos were taken. How did that photo shoot come about and how did you like the experience?

Nakaya: The photoshoot came about due to my friend, modeling-partner, and neighbor, Lisa. She had set the shoot up and messaged me the day before and asked me if I wanted to join her. And what’s any woman going to say to that? Yes, of course! So I spent three hours packing everything I could possibly think I would need, got about five hours of sleep, and we were on our way. I loved the experience! Ray was very professional, but also laid back and easy-going. At first I was a little shy; I didn’t know what to expect because I had never done anything like that before. But Ray was great. He repeatedly made sure I knew I didn’t have to do anything I wasn’t comfortable with. I couldn’t have asked for a better first experience!

Internet Hollywood: What do you feel the biggest challenge is going to be as an independent model when you imagine what the future is going to be like?

Nakaya: Thinking about my future, I think the biggest challenge of being an independent model will be keeping my name and appearance known. I will be doing all of my own promoting, keeping up on all my fan bases (FB: @haileynakaya, Twitter: @HaileyNakaya, Insta: @haileynakaya follow me!), and booking photo shoots on top of my schooling and pharmacy job. What’s a social life right?

Internet Hollywood: Are there other things you want to do besides modeling?

Nakaya: I have so many things other than modeling that I’m either currently doing, or have plans of pursuing in the future. I’m currently writing a book which I’m very excited about. If the opportunity came up, I would like to try acting. I love to learn, so staying in school is important to me. If I could stay in school forever, I would. I’m so passionate about drinking and driving. I want to go around to high schools and colleges around the country with my campaign I’m currently working on. I want to tell my story and how I’ve encountered drinking and driving on two very different aspects. I want to be a living example of the consequences that can and will occur when someone makes the decision to drink and drive.

Internet Hollywood: Congratulations on building your social media pages for your modeling. I know you have been very excited about that. How does it feel to sit back and see yourself this public as a model for the very first time?

Nakaya: Honestly it’s a little overwhelming because I’m just your average small town girl; I’m not used to that much attention, but it’s amazing. I never knew that so much could happen in such a small amount of time. It gives me hope that the messages I’m trying to create will get across to everyone, just as I planned it to.

Internet Hollywood: What are you hoping to accomplish before this year is out?

Nakaya: The main thing I’m hoping to accomplish is to get a solid start on my portfolio, start a campaign raising awareness of drinking and driving, and to create a strong peer influence. Once that happens, I can take the next steps to reach my goals I’ve set!

Internet Hollywood: Thank you so much for the interview Hailey. I look forward to following your career and writing more about you in the future!
