Beyond The Lens -Independent Vermont model Hailey Nakaya has been keeping herself busy with school while doing some independent modeling on the side and so far she has been doing a great job building herself since she started modeling in 2017.
Her Instagram has a lot of content from a lot of upcoming photographers, pictures related to her college life, pretty cool quotes and screenshots of stories published about her on InternetHollywood.com in the past. She just started around the fourth-quarter of last year and has built her following passed a couple hundred on Instagram and I’m positive that number will increase in the future.
I got in touch with the model with hopes of interviewing her even though she has been really busy with school. She took the time out of her busy day to respond to my questions with great answers and I’m happy to finally be able to share them with you. Enjoy the interview!

Internet Hollywood: Hey Hailey! Welcome back to the Internet Hollywood universe. The last time we talked was back in December when you filled us in on all of your plans leading up to Christmas. Now we are taking a step deeper into a new year and many people have been revealing some of the first steps they plan on taking for the new year. I definitely know you been busy with school and other things. I also want to congratulate you becoming a certified medical assistant! How does It feel to finally cross the finish line on something you been working so hard for?
Nakaya: Thank you so much! It feels amazing! I’ve put so much time and energy into my studies, and to finally cross the finish line is so rewarding. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders, and chaos is at bay.
Internet Hollywood: Your life as a student has been so busy you had to put modeling on hold for a while to get things done. Is there anything you miss about modeling now that you took a little break from it to handle bigger priorities?
Nakaya: I miss everything about it! Specifically, I like dressing up in all the different outfits and collaborating my makeup to match. There have been so many times I’ve been studying and I would just stop and think to myself, “Damn, I wish I could be on the set of a shoot right now.”
Internet Hollywood: When you first started modeling you were heavily engaging in collaborations with independent photographers and managed to get a lot done in a short amount of time. What was the driving force to the grind that made you do so much in a short amount of time?
Nakaya: My mindset was the driving force. I kept reminding myself that modeling has been a dream of mine for so long. I had to time, I had the connections, so I said why not?! I seized the opportunities that were presented to me. I kept thinking in the back of my mind, if I don’t do it now, there may never be another chance to do it. In my experiences, I’ve learned to take every opportunity there is, and do it the first time it gets laid on my plate. Because inevitably, you’re not promised tomorrow. Live in the moment and just do it.
Internet Hollywood: As far as photoshoots go, what style of photoshoots would you like to do?
Nakaya: I would love to do a series of black and white contrasting, conceptual/fine art/story-telling, candid, and adding some architectural elements into the pictures. I want my pictures to be edgy, and I want the viewers to feel that edge pushing on their chests.
Internet Hollywood: You have been doing an amazing job as an independent model and I truly feel you’re going to get better and bigger as we get deeper in the year. Are you interested in signing to an agency in the future or do you want to stick to being independent?
Nakaya: I think I want to stick to being independent for now. I just landed a full-time job on top of my other part-time job, and continuing to take classes. Once things settle down a little and my schedule clears up, I may reconsider. I like the idea of being signed to an agency, I just don’t want to put too much on my plate and end up not being able to deliver to full potential.
Internet Hollywood: What are some goals that you really want to conquer, and is there anything you fear that could get in the way of you doing so?
Nakaya: Some goals I would really like to conquer are to shoot with some models I haven’t worked with before, travel to more states for diverse backgrounds, and to a photo shoot at least once a month! The only thing preventing that from happening is everyone’s scheduling and trying to collaborate. And of course, the weather needs to play in my favor.
Internet Hollywood: Is there any other talent besides modeling that you would like to make a career out of?
Nakaya: Definitely acting! I truly think I have a knack for getting into character and staying that way. I like to test my acting skills on unsuspecting people. Everyone always falls victim to it (sorry y’all!). I let it go on for a few minutes then I break character and people are shocked. Their facial expressions are what indicate to me how believable I was. I think I do pretty well acting!
Internet Hollywood: Last question; what is your advice for females that want to start modeling but don’t know where to start?
Nakaya: Figure out what type(s) of modeling you would like to do. Befriend someone in the business, whether it be a model or photographer, and just ask. Many people are very friendly and would be more than happy to help guide you and get you started. It’s very important not to be naïve, though. There are people out there who have anything but your best interest. Do your research. Interested in working with a photographer? Look through their work, reach out to the models they’ve worked with, and ask about their experience. The most important thing overall is to be safe!
Internet Hollywood: Thank you for the interview!
